Local Knowledge: Cammeray's Pipes
Once known as "Suspension Bridge," this leafy, village-feel suburb is named for the Cammeraygal people and the arched bridge that still carries traffic over Long Gully.
Federation homes and Californian bungalows line the ridge streets, with mid-century walk-ups and more recent apartment blocks filling in closer to Miller Street.
Pre-1940 houses across the suburb were laid with earthenware and clay sewer and stormwater lines.
A century on, that pipework is well past its intended service life and prone to cracking on the sandstone slopes it sits in.
The ridge itself is the other half of the story.
The ridge falls steeply down toward Long Bay and Middle Harbour, so grit, leaves and root fragments all end up carried further down the line than they would on flatter ground.
On the lower streets near Tunks Park and Primrose Park, that means stormwater and surface runoff turn into a recurring concern whenever Sydney gets a proper downpour.
Ridge houses on clay pipe get looked at on camera before anything's quoted, and that footage decides whether it's a blocked drain repair job or a straightforward clear.
For the lower streets, blocked stormwater work is a bigger share of what we do than in flatter suburbs nearby.
Streets like Cairo Street and Morden Street sit lower on the same slope, close enough to the harbour foreshore that a blocked stormwater line here often means water pooling against a fence line before anyone notices a drain is the cause.
Families make up a good share of who lives on these streets, in a mix of period houses and newer flats close to Miller Street, which means school-holiday renovations are common and older plumbing gets uncovered more often than owners expect.
The suburb's centre has changed a lot even where the pipes underneath haven't.
Stockland Cammeray Square on Miller Street replaced older shopfronts with a supermarket and specialty stores, but the drainage feeding that block still ties back into the same ageing network as the houses around it.
The Abbott Street leagues club, running since 1964, and the golf course tucked into the local park both sit on lower ground where stormwater naturally collects, which is exactly where we see the heaviest surcharge after a big rain event.

Our Blocked Drain Services in Cammeray
The ridge-to-harbour drop and the pipe stock's age between them explain nearly every job on this list.
Blocked drain repair – original clay and earthenware lines under the Federation homes on Amherst and Palmer Streets.
Blocked stormwater – for the steep runoff toward Tunks Park and Middle Harbour that overloads older stormwater lines.
CCTV drain inspection – our standard first step before quoting any repair on pipe this age.
Drain cleaning – jetting out root intrusion from the mature street trees along the ridge.
Blocked sewer – for the strata blocks near Miller Street where one blockage affects several units on a shared stack.

Drain Problems We See Around Cammeray
Beyond the clay pipe and slope drainage already covered, two more issues make up nearly everything else we're called for.
- Tree-root intrusion. Heavy street-tree canopy on streets such as Palmer and Amherst drives root-blocked drains across the suburb.
- Stormwater overload. Intense Sydney downpours overload older stormwater lines on the harbourside slopes around Tunks and Primrose Parks.
Autumn leaf fall from the same mature trees clogs gutters and drains at exactly the time of year those root systems are most active, which is why we see a seasonal bump in call-outs once the leaves start dropping.
Winter rain then finishes the job on any joint the roots have already opened, which is why a slow drain noticed in autumn is worth clearing before the next heavy downpour rather than after.

Why Neighbours in Cammeray Pick Us
Neutral Bay is home turf, and this suburb sits close enough on our regular loop that we're rarely more than a few minutes out.
North Sydney Council's streets, ridge and harbourside both, are territory we work every week, not occasionally.
Whoever shows up has almost certainly seen your exact fault before, clay pipe or root intrusion, with 35+ years of combined tools-down experience behind them.
Being family-run for over a decade means the same standards apply whether it's a Tuesday morning call-out or a Saturday night emergency.
The old suspension bridge over Long Gully has carried traffic to Northbridge for more than a century, and it's a fair symbol for the suburb generally: plenty here has been standing a long time, pipes included, and it keeps working right up until the day it doesn't.

How We Work, From Call to Clear Drain
Look before we touch. A camera goes down the line first, so what we quote matches the actual fault, not a hunch off the symptom.
Pick the tool the pipe can take. A jetter for silted or root-choked runs, an eel for a single clog, and a gentler setting where the clay is old and brittle.
Show you it's clear. A second camera pass runs on screen, so you watch the line flow before we pack up.
Stand behind it. The clear carries our lifetime labour warranty, with nothing buried in the fine print.

Common questions
Your Cammeray FAQs
Questions local homeowners ask us most often.
Does the 30-minute guarantee actually cover Cammeray?
Yes, the whole suburb sits inside our guaranteed radius, from the Miller Street shops down to the streets backing onto Tunks Park.
Do you service Cammeray as often as you say?
Weekly, at minimum. This suburb sits between two others we already cover often, so a call-out here rarely means a special trip.
Can a collapsed section under my yard be fixed without digging it all up?
Usually. Unless the footage shows the pipe has properly caved in, a section split by age or roots can often be relined through an access point rather than digging the whole yard up.
Is the seniors discount available in Cammeray?
Yes, 10% off every job, on top of the fixed price you sign off first.
How much does a quote cost before I commit to anything?
Nothing. We look, we tell you what's wrong, and you decide from there, no cost either way.
Do you work on strata blocks as well as houses?
Yes. Cammeray's mix of walk-up flats and houses means we're regularly in both, and the approach doesn't change either way.
